FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: TeleFinder v5.7
New release builds
on Server Extensions, File Transfer, Chat features, and OS
Updates.
Irvine, CA - October 22, 1998 - Spider Island Software,
http://www.spiderisland.com, announced today that a new release,
version 5.7, of its highly rated TeleFinder Internet BBS Server will
be available next week.
TeleFinder v5.7 extends its use of Apple Scripting to support: server
side file transfer and new user processing, and client side chat
extensions. File Transfer speed has been optimized for fast network
connections, and is up to four times faster than previous
versions.
Successful uploads
to the server are automatically passed to the "ProcessFileTransfer"
server extension along with specific details about the file, user and
destination. Using AppleScript, C/C++, or other scripting software,
these feature makes it easy to integrate incoming files into a
business workflow.
There is also a new extension interface for scripts and 3rd party
software for hooking into the creation of new user accounts that can
automate the routine aspects of new user maintenance.
TeleFinder
v5.7 Macintosh adds the ability for users to create "Chat Bots"
using the Apple Scriptable Chat Extensions.
Using Chat Extensions users can create client side custom loggers,
add spelling correction, "twit" filters, fortune tellers, online help
and more.
Version 5.7 also supports user definable file transfer
"Helpers" using the MacOS 8.5 Internet Control Panel data, or an
application specific database. file transfer Helpers process files
after successful downloading.
This version now includes it's own File Transfer Log to record the
results of all file transfer activity on the client side. Adds
ability to use Chat Rooms in any part of the BBS. Includes support
for MacOS 8.5's Navigation Services.
File Transfers using TeleFinder's high speed "Background" protocol
can now recover from broken connections without data loss. The
Background protocol has also been optimized to get the full benefit
from T1 or better connections.
In TeleFinder
v5.7 the Windows client is now 32 bit native for Windows 95/98
and NT. The new version adds long filename support, the new Windows
File Browser, and 32 bit networking. TeleFinder/User for Windows also
includes it's own File Transfer Log. Integrated "Thumbnail" viewer no
longer requires the additional QuickTime for Windows
installation. Adds ability to use Chat Rooms in any part of the
BBS.
The Web Server is
optimized for Open Transport 2.0, and is now capable of serving in
excess of 17 million requests per day. TeleFinder v5.7 also
adds new options available in the Active Pages including sorting of
directory listings and support for the CGI "Query String"
parameter.
The Web Server also prevents "dead listeners" by monitoring the state
of the TCP-IP link and resetting TCP-IP when it detects a failed
link. The server's log can now be rolled over on a predefined
interval.
Added support files
for Apple GV 56K, Farallon Netopia, Megahertz CruiseCards, Hayes
Accura 56K and Global Village Teleport X2.
TeleFinder is $675
(new lower pricing! $99) for the Web, Email and BBS Servers. A
license for unlimited distribution of the TeleFinder clients and 3
concurrent users is included with the package. The upgrade is free to
purchasers of version 5.6, $150 (now $99) from previous versions.
