Bob Nunn : Apple has info about the iMac up now. Big press release.
Bob Wright : I played with a G3 last week...ordered one for my desk *grin*
Bob Nunn : The new iMac has a G3 in it and is $1299
Daniel O'Leary : My wife wants one.
Daniel O'Leary : Naturally, she's a smart girl...
Bob Nunn : I want to put on on all the desks of our managers up here. But then they would have more power than our designers...
Bob Wright : 1299...what else comes on it?
Bob Nunn : 4 Gig 32mb Ram, 24x CD `15" monitor 10/100 enet etc.
Daniel O'Leary : Bad news... I had to nuke my CW installation due to an HD corruption problem. Salvaged my own Java code, but will have to reinstall CW.
Bob Wright : what software?
Bob Wright : The G3 I saw comes with Office 98 and not SoftWindows but the windows emulation software package that is like SoftWindows
Bob Wright : PLUS...a zip drive :)
Daniel O'Leary : Need a Jaz drive.
Bob Nunn : Would love to have one. May settle for a card sometime in the future. The little iMac should give them a strong shot in the arm. $1299 for a fairly nice package that is faster than most all pentiums
Daniel O'Leary : zip is too small nowadays.
Bob Nunn : you going to have those mikael? The iMacs?
Bob Wright : I wish when you buy to order from Apple you did not have to purchase SDRAMs...I can get 32mb SDRAM for less than 55.00

Bob Wright : well, does anyone know how to get the Directories URL listings in alpha order?
Bob Wright : When I click on Web and then Server Settings and looks at the directories, they are not listed in alpha order...can I change this?
Daniel O'Leary : BW, the only way I know is to open the file in something else that can sort it.
Bob Nunn : If it is a settings file you can import it into excel.
Daniel O'Leary : I know that a sort routine was added to Mail server a while back for paths... the same thing could be added for TF server.
Bob Nunn : I even do that with my address book file on TFUser. Easier to edit. Would be nice to be built in though.
Bob Wright : Ahh...www_directories.config could be imported into ClarisWorks and then sorted?
Bob Nunn : Yep

Bob Wright : I don't see how a database program can be told to sort when the field starts with / though....how will it know how to sort /a/ or /b/ first?
Bob Nunn : I only use the real Mac versions. You know like excel 4

Bob Nunn : Yup, that's why I was so pleased with the iMac. Price and speed was always the argument they used. Now to get rid of this NT server up here.
Daniel O'Leary : I think that is the chink in the M$ armor.
Daniel O'Leary : NT' security rating is based upon a non-netted 3.5 CPU.
Daniel O'Leary : not what they currently sell, and not without installation of "maintenance packs".
Bob Nunn : Well if it is 3.5 it has dancing directories for all the Mac users with sys8. Its like playing kill Barney to hit your icon.

Bob Nunn : Didn't you notice the graphics degrade to PC levels when you change between 3 and 4?
Daniel O'Leary : not really, could be a color setting.
Bob Nunn : They changed the way the colors are handled. It is not a settings unfortunately.
Daniel O'Leary : thought the std palette was only 256 for GIF's, but am probably wrong...

Bob Nunn : Nope they equalized it down for the Windoze machines. Changed the dithering too.
Daniel O'Leary : IP know that RGB values rang from 000000 to FFFFFF.
