Bob Nunn : I haven't tried the later versions. The early
version works fine with one exception.

Bob Nunn : It kills the web server if you start and restop
it. I just restart TF when I need to restart the web server.

Bob Nunn : Actually it kills the whole machine. I haven't
tried the later beta's yet. Don't see much of a need since the
simpler smaller early version fills my needs.
Bill Gram-Reefer : BN, what kills the web server????
Jim Leary : Thanks Rusty...I downloaded b16 and it solved
that particular problem
Rusty Tucker BIAP Chat Bill
Bob Nunn : BIAP Chat the old version if you restart the web
server it loads the pi twice and it locks up the machine. I just
restart TF Server when I need to restart the web server.

Bill Gram-Reefer : so this is a beta, not the shipping demo
that I downloaded?
Bob Nunn : Not a biggy I have been running it probably six
months. I haven't tested any of the new beta's
Rusty Tucker Don't know about the demo, but yes to Beta.
Rusty Tucker I'm gonna dl the shipping version today. Did you
report the bug to BIAP BN?
Bob Nunn : Not really since it was version 1.0 and the
version they are working on is 2.0 I didn't figure the guy would
care.
Rusty Tucker I've got Carbon Dating, Explorer 401 and BIAP on
my list today :)
Bob Nunn : I downloaded the MailSmith demo and can't get it
to work.
Rusty Tucker I got the Carbon Dating results from TeleFinder
User today, and it looks as expected. Nothing too significant aside
from the Rhapsody IO Kit not being defined yet.
Bob Nunn : Think they might drop BSD and stick with OT?
Rusty Tucker That would mean no modem access if we had to
convert today.
Rusty Tucker They will both be supported BN.
Bob Nunn : Carbon won't be around till mid 99?

Bob Nunn : Supported on G3's or better I understand. Will
have to consider my hardware upgrades carefully.
Rusty Tucker Carbon Dating just lets about how much work going
to Carbon will be. Not too much for TF.

Rusty Tucker It will be supported -fur sure- on all shipping
Macs. I'd expect any 603/604 PCI PowerMac will be supported tho.
Daniel O'Leary : Hey hey hey, I'm back online.
Daniel O'Leary : Peekaboo to Jim Leary... I saw you on my
system before I redid the access groups.
Bob Nunn : I had heard they were moving toward supporting all
of the new g3 features in it that may not be available to the 603,
604's. Hope they don't make too large a leap.
Bill Gram-Reefer : maybe 604, there was some discussion at
WWDC about how far back do you go and 603 seemed to be teetering on
the precipice
Bill Gram-Reefer : but a lot of educators are crying for
support for their stash of LC's

Bob Nunn : Tell em to put them with the 486's. They got at
least double the life out of the LC's
Bill Gram-Reefer : Rusty, what of the rumors of a MacOS Lite
for handheld and portables to replace eMate and Newton?
Rusty Tucker BN - you tried Mail Smith?
Bob Nunn : MailSmith Demo did not work after initial install.
Will reinstall later today. May have to redownload.
Rusty Tucker :0 makes perfect sense to me BGR, tho I've not
heard anything different from the rest of the world

Bill Gram-Reefer : ok, in using BIAP Chat I noticed that when
I was trying to review notes left while I was on the phone it would
do an auto-scroll to the newest entry..which was maddening if you
wanted to read what had been said earlier...is there a way to toggle
that off?
Bob Nunn : I never tried any of the version 2 series. Version
1 is simplicity itself. I decided after reading all the grief they
were having with the beta not to change.

Rusty Tucker BGR - that's probably a Java GUI limitation.
Bill Gram-Reefer : well, while waiting for your response I

Bob Wright : RT: Still no new release on TF User to fix the
wrong password bug?
Rusty Tucker it will be in the next beta - any day now
Daniel O'Leary : Noticed that I cannot change voice params
with an xfer going.
Bill Gram-Reefer : OK, if its a JAVA limitation they can't do
anything about it but it is a downside
Bob Wright : ok...I thought you had said on Fri that the new
version would be out that afternoon...my mistake
Rusty Tucker Also, TeleFinder User will get the "Transfer Log"
window.
Daniel O'Leary : Hmm. Cant change voice parameters other than
the assignment of a voice...
Daniel O'Leary : Rate and Pitch sliders are not moving
here
Bob Wright : yep...pitch wont move

Rusty Tucker do you have the working version still?
Daniel O'Leary : I have a ton of old ones here.
Daniel O'Leary : Would have to unpack an earlier one to see
where it broke.
Bob Nunn : Go back to b7. I noticed this in b8 I am fairly
certain. Thought it was because the chat was active.
Daniel O'Leary : I've been offline for over a week,
reformatting my HDS and stuff with 8.1...
Daniel O'Leary : Have done a major reorg to simplify things,
blowing away the partitions that I used prior to 8.1.
Bob Wright : gotta run....hope to see the new TF User online

Bob Nunn : You got more nerve than me DO, I only have my
files drive in 8.1. I like Norton to be able to fix things.

Daniel O'Leary : BN... I had to do it... things were getting
too complex.
Daniel O'Leary : Was using 5 partitions and tons of aliases
to make the system look like one unit.
Bob Nunn : Can understand that. Would love to have the space
my newsgroups and conferences are tying up.
Daniel O'Leary : Am now seeing a very good return on HD space
under the extended format.
Rusty Tucker yes, very good for Email and Conferences.
Daniel O'Leary : Wish that apple would explain the options a
little clearer though.
Daniel O'Leary : The formatter should return the ultimate
number of files available and the smallest file size, when you adjust
things.
Daniel O'Leary : A really neat utility would analyze the data
and suggest the parameters to use the next time the disk is
formatted.
Rusty Tucker .. past performance is no guarantee of future

Daniel O'Leary : Correct, but it is better than blindly
setting them.
Bob Nunn : Is it Alsoft? RT that makes the HFS+
utilities?
Rusty Tucker I just "Erased' from Finder. Very easy :)
Rusty Tucker it's been working beautifully ever since.
Daniel O'Leary : RT, I have noticed that things are working
very smoothly here since the reformat also.
Bob Nunn : Do you think Norton is dragging their feet on
purpose. I know that Tech Tool supposedly is already out with a
supporting version.
Daniel O'Leary : I only have a couple hundred meg of files to
restore from the Jaz drive to complete the switchover.
Rusty Tucker The Win 95/98 NT user is just about ready.
Rusty Tucker I need to dial=in to a system to test the modem
drivers, everything else rocks.

Rusty Tucker Also, I've been running an updated Process New
User script this weekend. No problems so far.
Rusty Tucker it looks like:

tell finder to make a pub folder, and it already exists -- then you
end up with an 'untitled folder' select mail_folder make new folder
in mail_folder with properties {name:"pub"} -- end if on error end
try
Rusty Tucker for some reason, " if not (pub Folder exists)"
was not working.
Rusty Tucker you can also comment out :
Rusty Tucker tell application "Finder" activate end tell
Rusty Tucker that will leave TeleFinder in the front.
Rusty Tucker I had several reports of the ProcessNewUser
script actual crashing...
Rusty Tucker So maybe this will fix it?
Rusty Tucker Or it may have been something else.
