Rusty Tucker hola!
mikael fredriksson HI!
Rusty Tucker Welcome to the Chat Room chat Jim!
Rusty Tucker Hi
Rusty Tucker Is anyone running the server on 68k anymore?
mikael fredriksson Nope PPC here...
Rusty Tucker I've been thinking of making the beta Power PC only if its not a problem.
Jim Smith Kind of, on C650 with PPC card.
mikael fredriksson (Q950 + PPC card here)
Rusty Tucker ok
Rusty Tucker Not too much new today
Rusty Tucker I should have a new round of Beta's ready for release this afternoon
Rusty Tucker Including a Mail Server update with the fixed SMTP gateway
Rusty Tucker Welcome to the Chat Room chat Michael!
mikael fredriksson RT when my system bombed (HDS plugin) it stopped in Macsbug no restart any idea?
Rusty Tucker Not sure, please send me the log
mikael fredriksson I could type RB to reboot
mikael fredriksson nothing in the log ...
Rusty Tucker Marcus Jarrett has put together a nifty looking Chat Extension script. Even has a GUI
Rusty Tucker I'll be posting that today too.
mikael fredriksson ;)
Rusty Tucker What was the error message?
mikael fredriksson I cant remember will try to "bomb" it again..
Rusty Tucker HDS still has a couple of Memory problems that Jon is working on.
mikael fredriksson It bombed when I tried to download a appledouble file attachment (hqx) worked ok
mikael fredriksson in HDS
Rusty Tucker I hear they demo's a 400 mhz G3 at Seybold, totally Rocks
mikael fredriksson speed like a 800 MHz Pentium II...
Rusty Tucker Even a 233 G3 beat the PII333 in PhotoShop tests
mikael fredriksson I listen to the taped speech now on RealAudio
Michael Davidson I'll be right back!
Rusty Tucker The RISC promise is finally coming true! If Allegro has a native file system, it will be killer.
mikael fredriksson http://play.rbn.com/?ziff/pcweek/demand/jobs980317-09.rm
mikael fredriksson Applescript will be PPC native in Allegro
Rusty Tucker Yes, that will be great
Rusty Tucker That will be way cool for TeleFinder extensions
mikael fredriksson and ColorSync will go cross platform
Michael Davidson dumb question: exactly how many characters in 1K and would that number always be constant?
Rusty Tucker its always 1024
Michael Davidson thanks
Rusty Tucker Welcome to the Chat Room chat Rick!
Michael Davidson Hi Rick!
Rick Palmer hey everyone
Michael Davidson I thought I might put an error message for > 1K in my bot
Rick Palmer I haven't gotten to the bots yet...someone have it down to a science?
Michael Davidson If I didn't have to get my stuff ready for IRS this week, I would have a chat app ready
Rick Palmer You too huh
Rusty Tucker its that time of year again
Rick Palmer Between IRS Nortel, soccer coaching...
mikael fredriksson Here in Sweden too :(
Michael Davidson Maybe next year, I'll be better organized...but then, hopefully next year, we can get rid of IRS totally
Rusty Tucker VAT only?
Rick Palmer For us its a long road to tell them we owe them nothing
Rick Palmer cost several hundred dollars to tell them that
Michael Davidson Preferably, no tax, but flat would be acceptable to us Libertarians
Michael Davidson (some of us Libertarians, provided it is very flat and very small)
Michael Davidson are you 501c Rick?
Michael Davidson Rusty, any way to tell a specific doc on the server to open by way of AE (using TF/user)?
Michael Davidson a text doc that is; I'm thinking about a Help Room (chat)
Rusty Tucker There may be a way to put an event in the server that would cause a text file to open in user.
Rusty Tucker is that what you mean?
Rick Palmer we have just recently gone that route. previously we used our partners like KCPT and the libraries..etc but have found that we loose money by splitting it with them...when the people who donate would like to support only us....actually loosing money..the theory was that we could be a Kansas Non profit and beat non compete problems with 501 C ....but the non compete thing has completely evaporated....anyway
Michael Davidson well, I could send 1024 characters of help at a time, or I could, in response to a specific response from a user in a help chat room, open the help doc that is appropriate
Rusty Tucker I think there is already something that will download a file to a user.
Rusty Tucker it would be pretty easy to make an event to open a text file.
Rusty Tucker just make sure that the file is in the paths for the user.
Rusty Tucker Welcome to the Chat Room chat Jonathan!
Michael Davidson Hi Jonathan!
Jonathan Paisley hi folks
mikael fredriksson Hi!
Michael Davidson In most cases, 1K of text at a time of help is enough, but some cases, the specific help file (like Bob Nunn created) for specific topics would be nice
mikael fredriksson JP I have one thing for you HDS It bombed when I tried to download a appledouble file attachment (hqx) worked ok
Jonathan Paisley Do you have a copy of the appledouble POP3 file that caused the crash?
Rick Palmer JP...how's hard is it to get a key for HDS these days
Jonathan Paisley AppleDouble isn't explicitly supported at the moment, but it shouldn't really cause a crash..
Jonathan Paisley Rick: Have you tried contacting keycode@highlander...?
Rusty Tucker Should be easier now that the TFNet-SMTP gateway is fixed.
mikael fredriksson I can make a new one it was mailed from Quickmail Pro 1.5
Rick Palmer I either did or last time I tried was just before keycode....
Michael Davidson Another question RT, can an event in a chat room be used to trigger an IM to the user that triggered the event in the chat
Rusty Tucker sure
Jonathan Paisley send email to me directly... jon@jon.ml.or
Jonathan Paisley jon@jon.ml.org even
Rusty Tucker just use the "Send Instant Message" event.
Michael Davidson for example, if I used cuss words in this chat, an IM would tell me politely to quit
Rusty Tucker check out the "send im" snippet
Jonathan Paisley RT: Are all these chat things in the latest TF User archive? I haven't seen them separately online anywhere...
Rusty Tucker Yes, they're in the user sea
Jonathan Paisley great, I'll have to get that downloaded to see what you guys are all chatting about!
Rusty Tucker you want them separate?
Michael Davidson they need the beta tf/users anyway
Jonathan Paisley Reading the TFS release notes, I thought they were separate, and so was looking for them (to no avail!). In the archive is fine, its just I haven't managed to d/l them yet
Michael Davidson weird format for the send IM
Michael Davidson send instant message "guest:hello"
Michael Davidson so I need {send instant message "fromUser:hello"} to be sent
Rusty Tucker I think there is a different way to do it now, using the properties { name:Guest, message:hello }
Rusty Tucker or something like that
Michael Davidson That would be nice; what do you mean by now b6?
Jonathan Paisley Do the events let you send messages *from* users other than the user logged on?
Rusty Tucker Its hard for me to say 2 things in AppleScript , I just don't know enough AS
Rusty Tucker IM's are always from the logged in user name
Rusty Tucker You can't use the events to impersonate a user
Jonathan Paisley that's fine, just checking :)
Jonathan Paisley good!
mikael fredriksson JP I tried to mail a appledouble attachment and it ends in macsbug with a SI Debug error
Michael Davidson But, what if I wanted logger to react to users entering, instead of me, can I run more than one chat ext app with different "froms"
Rusty Tucker You'd need multiple TeleFinder User's logged in, each with a separate extension
Jonathan Paisley mikael: OK, that's probably one of the known bugs in the current beta release. I'll be uploading a fix for that particular problem soon !
Michael Davidson A Help room "Helper" needs to always be logged on then correct
Rusty Tucker yes, unless the "helper" is just a personality of some other user.
Rusty Tucker Like "System Concierge", you could ask them anything
Jonathan Paisley [like OAT's Online Assistant user ;]
Rusty Tucker Yeah :)
Michael Davidson Ok, so the helper would require a second machine or a way for TF/User on the server to connect to the server
Michael Davidson Or OAT's online Assistant !
Jonathan Paisley I've gotta run now. Hopefully the updated web mail beta'll be available in the next few days. Cya later!
Rusty Tucker thanks Jon
Rusty Tucker c-ya
Michael Davidson Bye Jonathan.
mikael fredriksson RT macsbug log mailed to you and Jonathan
Rusty Tucker Welcome to the Chat Room chat Bob!
Michael Davidson Hi Bob!
Rusty Tucker MD - there is also the Chat Server suite of events, those are server side.
Bob Nunn Hey almost missed all of it.
Rusty Tucker That is also the suite that Online Assistant uses.
Michael Davidson Since I've never needed to hook up TF/user on the server to the server, I've never paid attention to the easiest way to do that, so what is the easy way to do it?
Rusty Tucker TCP-IP
Rusty Tucker or ADSP connection tool
Michael Davidson Ok, thanks RT, I'll look at the Chat Server suite, that should probably work
Michael Davidson ok, thanks
Bob Nunn I am testing a new Photo PI from Jon. http://www.headgap.com/image.html if you care to try it.
Rusty Tucker Almost time for me to go....
Rusty Tucker I have a meeting at 12,
Bob Nunn Please send the log so I can see what I missed and get it put up. Thanks.
Rusty Tucker I'll leave the log running if ya'll want to stay
Bob Nunn I was tied up and am running behind so I need to go.
Rusty Tucker c-ya
Michael Davidson Bye Jim.
Bob Nunn Bye
Rusty Tucker c-ya
Michael Davidson Bye Bob.
Rick Palmer babes!
Michael Davidson wonder why my bot beats yours rusty?
Rick Palmer BN has babes
Rusty Tucker ?
Michael Davidson mine shows response faster, but maybe not on your side
Rusty Tucker Check out the new stuff this PM. I'll post it to tf-announce when its ready.
