Rusty Tucker hola!
mikael fredriksson : Hi RT!
Rusty Tucker hey hey
Bob Nunn joined the chat.
Rusty Tucker Welcome to the chat Bob!
Jim Smith : RT, I have a problem with a file I have on my web site that MSIE user can not download, Netscape work ok. Have you every heard of anything like that?
mikael fredriksson : RT is it the dir.spml that need to be changed?
Rusty Tucker haven't heard of that Jim
Bob Nunn : Is there any change in the way the new OT 2.0 uses single link Multihoming. I know my existing Prefs work. Do you still have to use a text editor to set it up?
Rusty Tucker yes, its the same in OT 2
Bob Nunn : I was starting to go through the rest of the pieces in the templates later today to see what changes were made. Anything we need to look at particularly or can we just go by the dates?
Rusty Tucker I made some changes in dir.spml w/ dates and the tables. nothing big
Rusty Tucker in topic.spml there are changes for the "Next 10" button, so it does not list all messages at once
Kenneth Kump joined the chat.
Rusty Tucker Welcome to the chat Kenneth!
Bob Nunn : Will look at them then. I think that is a nice addition.
Kenneth Kump : congrads on getting 5.7 out the door. can I call 453-8095 and charge on my credit card? and will that get me a manual and CD-ROM?
Rusty Tucker the new number is 714 508 9366 amex/visa/mc
Kenneth Kump : OK. Thanks you will get my call in a little while.
Bob Nunn : How is address book doing for you Jim. I noticed it up on the Version Tracker site.
Jim Smith : Good, got about 9000 hits on site after something in Tidbit talks
Jim Smith : Now if they will only pay:)
Bob Nunn : Some of the guy in the Apple Group here speak very highly of it. I guess I never looked at it.
Bob Nunn : I was going to pull it down but our network went down for about 4 days. Seems Bell South was working on something and accidentally killed our ISDN.
Jim Smith : It kind of out dated, kind of DAish, very MODAL
Jim Smith : Lots of work need to get done
Jim Smith : My url is www.jimsmithsoft.com
Jim Smith : Simple Mac program are not SIMPLE :)
Bob Nunn : Perhaps you can add some of the new 8.5 features to it. I will get on after this.
Bob Nunn : I can't decide if I like the sounds or not. I do like Sherlock though. Typed in Operator Headgap and got 207 hits.
Bob Nunn : And none of them had anything to do with Halloween ;-)
Kenneth Kump : have any of you tried LiveCard from Royal Software?
Jim Smith : Bob you mention User Group, our local club had all but dead :( , last few meetings had 3 or 4 show up.
Bob Nunn : The net is about to finish up the usergroup. We have a group of older diehards. Not much in the way of young folks. Indicative of the way things are changing.
Daniel O'Leary joined the chat.
Rusty Tucker Welcome to the chat Daniel!
Daniel O'Leary : hey hey hey.
Jim Smith : Your right, however the PC club has about 300 members, but most of not young.
Bob Nunn : I still go for the social aspects more than what I learn. I still learn a few things each time. Hey Daniel.
Daniel O'Leary : And today's topic is...?
Daniel O'Leary : User groups?
Jim Smith : Have you been used? DO
Daniel O'Leary : Haha, yes as a matter of fact JS...
Bob Nunn : We were talking about how much better everyone sounds using the new high quality voices.
Daniel O'Leary : Oh, I agree.
Bob Nunn : I think I am going to have to change you back from the lower pitched Agnes though.
Daniel O'Leary : Would be cool if this as well as other Prefs could be stored at the server in the pub folder.
Daniel O'Leary : with an option to "export" then so that other could grab and use your personally selected Prefs for your own voice.
Daniel O'Leary : Is RT really here or is he away from the tube?
Daniel O'Leary : Hmmm. No response, or major lag here.
Daniel O'Leary : online user list updates fast enough... what's up?
Bob Nunn : I think he is on the phone
Daniel O'Leary : I've been working on some improved Admin. help screens for OAT and TF.
Daniel O'Leary : Having trouble getting some of them to fit within the size limits of an instant message
Daniel O'Leary : Wish IM's supported styles too. Would be very helpful in this application, as far as formatting the responses so important items are bold, references are in different colors/fonts etc.
Daniel O'Leary : Think that TF/user should also adopt the new view styles possible under OS 8.x.
Bob Nunn : That would be fun. I would like to learn more about the sounds.
Daniel O'Leary : We lost another TF system on Fidonet this last week.
Bob Nunn : Kenneth were you thinking that SuperCard would make it easier to design your own portal like features into your web bbs?
Kenneth Kump : I guess you are talking to me? Bob.
Bob Nunn : Yes
Kenneth Kump : I don't have SuperCard, but was thinking about live card from royal software; but can't seem to get much of a response from them and don't know if I want to spend the money if I can not marry live card to TF web server.
Kenneth Kump : years ago, I had a HyperCard BBS and it was easy to maintain. Live Card is supposed to be able to marry with TF and provide the graphics part of the TF Server using the Internet browser.
Kenneth Kump : I liked the live card demo at Royal software; but still have cold feet because I don't know their reputation and I know nothing about SuperCard.
Daniel O'Leary : I never got into HyperCard. Too much of a shift for me.
Donald McHose joined the chat.
Rusty Tucker Welcome to the chat Donald!
Kenneth Kump : HyperTalk is real easy; but was always slow. With the new Macs; it's fast enough (???) for use in presenting topics and messages from TF's BBS conferences. I think. Would appreciate more comments on this but have to go vote; don't you all forget now. Later.
Daniel O'Leary : Bob why is your IP address changing?
Kenneth Kump left the chat.
Rusty Tucker c-ya Kenneth Kump
Daniel O'Leary : has anyone been seeing bad dates on folders that contain messages?
Daniel O'Leary : I am see this in all folders that contain MSG's imported from Fidonet. The date/time on the message, and the message file, bulleted folder are okay, but the parent folder dates all the way back to the HD are screwed up into the future.
Daniel O'Leary : Comments?
IBIS joined the chat.
Rusty Tucker Welcome to the chat IBIS!
IBIS left the chat.
Rusty Tucker c-ya IBIS
Rusty Tucker sounds like a bad date on an imported message
Daniel O'Leary : Is not RT>
Daniel O'Leary : I have checked them all.
Daniel O'Leary : Done a file search by date too.
Daniel O'Leary : they keep changing back to the bad dates.
Rusty Tucker only the Fido areas?
Daniel O'Leary : Yes, ALL the Fido areas.
Daniel O'Leary : Happens when a msg. is imported.
Bob Nunn : My ISP is going to UUNET. Suppose to give us a main feed to both Atlanta and Chicago rather than just Atlanta.
Bob Nunn : Going to run. See you next week. Send the logs.
Bob Nunn left the chat.
Rusty Tucker c-ya Bob Nunn
Daniel O'Leary : RT, saw a great feature in Netscape 4.5
Daniel O'Leary : When it crashes, it saves data about the crash, and emails it back to them when you bring it back up.
Daniel O'Leary : uses a product called "TalkBack"
Jim Leary joined the chat.
Rusty Tucker Welcome to the chat Jim!
Jim Smith left the chat.
Rusty Tucker c-ya Jim Smith
Rusty Tucker yeah, I'd rather not get -all- the logs! :)
Rusty Tucker would be pretty easy to do though, just make a start up app that looks for the crash log, then email it.
Jim Leary : All seems to be going smoothly Rusty...thanks for your help and congratulations on 5.7
Rusty Tucker great and thanks!
Rusty Tucker Do- if you can capture a message that trips the date, or a batch that does, send it to me
Jim Leary : anyone catch Gates at Indiana University on C-Span the other day?
Daniel O'Leary : This application does NOT require Macsbug..
Daniel O'Leary : IF I caught him, he'd be dead, Jim.
Daniel O'Leary : Haha
Daniel O'Leary : The messages look fine as do the dates on the index file and the bulleted folder.
Rusty Tucker Hey, got to run will see you all Thurs.?
Daniel O'Leary : The dates on parent folders are screwed.
Donald McHose : Yupper :-}
Donald McHose left the chat.
Rusty Tucker c-ya Donald McHose
Rusty Tucker I think our Soccer night is Weds this week, so I should be able to make it
Daniel O'Leary : Do you need the Fidonet import file?
Rusty Tucker I think so
Rusty Tucker if that is in fact the prob.
Rusty Tucker smaller the better :)
Daniel O'Leary : Hmm. got a util. that will clone it off to the side, out of the import process?
Jim Leary : see you later
Jim Leary left the chat.
Rusty Tucker c-ya Jim Leary
Rusty Tucker better to stop if from importing if you can
Rusty Tucker then process copies
Daniel O'Leary : Okay will try to set that up.
Daniel O'Leary : Don't know how to stop MK, but can take the gate out of MS.
Daniel O'Leary : that should leave the files in the gateway spool folder, right?
Rusty Tucker yes that will work
Rusty Tucker sound like we only need on cycle's worth
Daniel O'Leary : Done.
Daniel O'Leary : I may have solved the Mail problem that Sunflower was having.
Rusty Tucker how's that?
Daniel O'Leary : I think he was exceeding limit of files per volume.
Daniel O'Leary : he is going to test that to see.
Rusty Tucker oh? that's a bad side effect!
Daniel O'Leary : He was running HFS, not HFS+ on 2 GB drives.
Daniel O'Leary : I think he had about 60000 files per volume.
Daniel O'Leary : or more.
Rusty Tucker yikes
Daniel O'Leary : Had personal sharing running on a schedule, with Retrospect.
Daniel O'Leary : Think he was bumping into limits there...
Daniel O'Leary : We'll see. That may be affecting others too...
Daniel O'Leary : They just have not seen the effect yet.
Daniel O'Leary : By the way, I have added configuration here for Bulldogbbs.tfnet.org.
Rusty Tucker hmm, not sure how that would put files in the wrong directory though.
Daniel O'Leary : is that Okay?
Rusty Tucker sure
Rusty Tucker I see that Batman's got thru
Daniel O'Leary : Yes, it did...I had a problem here, that I solved. I would guess that all bets are off when the number of nodes is overrun.
Daniel O'Leary : (inodes or equivalent)
Daniel O'Leary : Would have thought that the OS would have reported a file system error.
Daniel O'Leary : he had free space, but something else is a player.
Daniel O'Leary : Wonder if it is related to his file locking problem. thought that was fixed in later versions of personal file sharing.
Daniel O'Leary : He needs to also find out how big a shared file system can be.
Daniel O'Leary : He's really throttling things with turning that on and off each day.
Daniel O'Leary : Will let you run now... Have removed the MK gateway here and will let it run on idle for a bit. Create new folders so the dates are correct, then run import on a copy of the Fidonet import file.
Daniel O'Leary : If bad dates appear, will forward the Fidonet import file to you.
Rusty Tucker itsa plan
Daniel O'Leary : Take care...hope to be here Thurs.
