THE WRITE STUFF, A REVIEW ! Not just another C = 128 or C = 64 Word Processor, this may just be the ultimate W - P for these 8 - bit machines. This program comes complete with almost every bell and whistle offered by other programs, at half the price. This article is being written using the 128 80 - Column version, but could just as easily be written with the C = 64 version. The one missing item is an integrated Thesaurus, but gossip has it that this item will be added in the next update version. This is a post formatted word processor so that you will not get a WYSIWIG output to screen, but when you have finished your document, it can be previewed in a true WYSIWIG form by printing to screen. This preview option changes screen and character colors to give the appearance of ink and paper to the screen output. If you are not happy with the results, you can change your format commands and retry, without wasting paper. Version 2 also has a great dictionary which can be accessed with minimal key presses. One feature I enjoyed was the ability of scrolling through the dictionary listings. I find that this is a great help when I am not certain of the spelling, it allows me to type the word and then search for the correct spelling ( hopefully I will recognize the word when and if I see it). I will list some of the features of the 128 Userware Version of this product to give you some idea of it ' s capabilities. 63K Text area, 16K Buffer area, On - Disk Documentation, 2 Help Screens in RAM view instantly, supports 1700 and 1750 RAM Expanders, supports all drive types 1541 - 1571 and 1581, Built - In outline generator, Auto - numbering of lists, Delete - Transfer or Copy text, One Pass double column output, Mail Merge for Form Letters, Interface with Superbase & other Databases, Import files from any other Word Processor, Built - In 21 - Function Calculator, Menu or Keyboard Driven, All DOS - Commands supported, 1581 Sub - Directory support, Built - in file translation for 14 of the most popular Word Processors, A Unique On - Line Macro feature that allows you to define hundreds of macros, multi - copy printing, Supports drives 8 to 11 and dual - drives, Odd / Even page printing, Merge and Append files, Built - In File Converter, and many more. It is not necessary for any one person to use all of these features, but it is nice to know that they are available if we need them. The longer I work with this program, the more I see why TC - 128 editor, L. Lovhaug picked this as one of the best W - P ' s for the C = 128, and gave it his highest rating. The Write Stuff can be purchased at great savings through your user group. If anyone is interested in bulk purchases of either the C = 64 or the C = 128 version sign up with the Librarian and we will place a bulk User Group order. For those of you who would like to try it out before purchasing, a demo copy of the C = 64 version is available in our club library. See the club librarian at any of our meetings to obtain a copy.
